The South African flower, King Protea(King Sugar Bush), is represented on the Google doodle. Nelson Mandela was South African. In the beginning he was a rebel against the regime, and then later on he became the president. The clothes he has in this image remind us of the clothes that he could wear at times, big prints, often in yellow, beige and orange tones. In the image Mandela is surrounded by flowers, the King Protea.
According to Wikipedia Protea was named by a Swede, after the Greek God Proteus. He was an sea-God and God of rivers. He can foretell the future. The adjective is protean, means capable of assuming many forms, flexible and adaptable.
Proteus also exists in Egypt mythology, considered immortal man over the sea who never lies.
In alchemy and psychology it has been used as the symbol of unconscious and perfection of art, according to Wikipedia.
Even Shakespeare uses Proteus for shapes change.
The US have had submarines, lead ships and civil war steamers with the name Proteus included.
The shape of the banderol in the image does remind us of a ship. Also the banderol in the top of the doodle looks like air craft. So the banderol associates to both Air and sea. Protea was about the sea in many explanation’s, as well as the blue colour in the doodle, as well as the shape of the banderol.
In this case the person in the image represents Nelson Mandela, South African former president. The images in the blue background can be both heaven and sea. Also the flower is represented in the regular colours, orange, red and green in different shades, as well as in stylized blue print (shadow).
Nelson is old in the image, having brown skin and grey hair. He has a smile that isn’t smiling a lot, but a little.
3 of the red-orange flowers are on the left of the banderol, three are inside, on the left side. On the right side four flowers are inside and two flowers are outside the banderol.
Mandela has yellow “dots” inside the oval shaped image of Mandela. Oval is a regular symbol for God in icons for byzantine belief system. In the white house they have an oval shaped office for the president. This also connects to Mandela being a president. The print inside the oval is like an old print of wall paper. In Sweden we call it “gammelsvensk” type of print, however I could not find any print online with yellow dots, but the print looks the same. I found a vintage-collection that almost looked the same. So should we say that Nelson was old-fashioned?
The letter Go is visible to the left. The letter GLE are visible after Mandela. The G is almost not visible, so at first glimpse you see Go LE. If you say that it turns “goalie”, like a gate keeper/goal keeper. So was Nelson Mandela the goal, that his saying was the goal? That we should all be considered equal? Or was Nelson the protector of peace?
On the top there are the colours pink, blue, green and yellow in shape of triangles.
In Wikipedia the upside down pink triangles were worn by homo sexual men in Nazi concentration camps. HBT-movement uses this sign with the regular triangular shape, with the base in the bottom.
A yellow triangle is used in Windows for conflicts within the software and hardware.
But then it is used with exclamation marks. Many traffic signs use the yellow triangle as a warning symbol, but then combined with other symbols. Radioactive symbol also uses the yellow triangle.
Quite often the yellow color combined with the triangular shape is used as a warning. In this case the Google doodle looks like an air plane ticket. The right side of the ticket is blinking and the arrow is pointing to the left, like Google doodle designer wants us, the user, to open it.
Some flags in the world contain blue triangles, in example Eritrea. In the Eritrean flag there is also the green triangle as well. There that means prosperity, progress and development. The blue triangle is used in Finland when they want to symbolize Defensive operations, then with an orange background. The homepage says it is an international symbol for protecting the people.
The green triangle in old cars is a warning for gas mixing. It can also be a warning for something with engine electronics with an issue. According to tredjetestamentet.se it can mean that this is one level on conscience for humanity to become more in the image of God. Green there represents love zones.
If we click on the ticket, Google leads us to an image of an African village. The words written there are:
“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin or his background or his religion”. All in big capitals, like someone is screaming it out online. The chosen font lets the letters O, A pop out the most and the B is also bolder than the others. There are six African houses with straw roof’s. They are in different colors. One is green turquoise, one is blue turquoise, two are apricot color and two yellow houses. The roads have triangular shapes, just like a snake. The ticket that you click on makes a person walk a path that leads to an African house. In that African house there is the above written words.
The letter A and O are used in Sweden for explaining the essentials from beginning to end, or the key factors. This is “A och O”, that can mean this is important, or these are the key elements. If we look it up in Wikipedia (very unscientific), then it was used for God and Jesus, depending on what type of belief system you are in to. We can find this in old Christian artefacts. In Greek alphabet it is the first and last letter. If we look up a and o in the Wikipedia, it references to the end and beginning in the Bible. I was however looking for a and o, but read the other stuff too. Perhaps we should reconsider what is important? What are the key elements to A and O? To life?
A and O is about a lot of things, even peace. In the book of revelations God claims that God is A and O. A and O the beginning and the end, the key elements, the most important things, alfa and omega. I am however disturbed about the fact that Nelson used he in the sentence. I would have like a unisex word, but always in English I end up with it, and that isn’t fun to call people by. But that is the only word I have that is unisex for he and she. In Sweden we invented a new word for he and she, that is hen. In Finnish they have already used “hän” for both male and female for Centuries, their language is much more unisex than ours. But we at least have added “hen”, so could the English also do.
The color of the road and the ground are orange, yellow tones.
To the left of the first image of the doodle you can click on a speech bubble, if you do that you get the written sentence in your language (if available). I get “Ingen föds till att hata någon annan på grund av dennes hudfärg, bakgrund eller religion.”
The words are said to have been said of Nelson according to Dn.se. The Swedish words lead me to an article about racism in Sweden. That Swede has been considered something negative, that not many want to relate to. The article is about the fact that we have alienated ourselves in Sweden in parallell worlds, one within the system and one outside the Swedish system. Alienation feeds racism the article in DN.se writes about.
Since I have been talking to people in so called “bad neighbourhoods” I can relate to the fact that a superstition does feed among the people in those neighbourhoods, not even wanting to tell the police when something bad happens. It is pretty sad that people cannot feel trust in the state. But if it is so, then there is something in the system that creates this feeling and somehow the system has failed to integrate. The system is made of people and that means that the arenas for communication need to be many. I do not think that this is satisfying in Sweden and many other parts of the world either. Many factors are combined and all these create the systems that give more hate, more alienation and so on.
So perhaps we could see this as a warning, that we shouldn’t let this air craft shoot down be the key to start a war. We should more see it as Nelson, that nobody is born to hate. We should instead be friends, sit down and talk. I can understand we do not want to talk to everyone; we will most likely not want to do that. But there is no reason for war.
Hillary Clinton said she wanted more armed troops as proactive measurements. I just think that is wrong. We need to lay down the weapons, not take on even more.
So perhaps we are supposed to see what Mandela said as true, like the doodle says. All this in an doodle from Google celebrating Nelson Mandela’s birthday.
I haven’t analysed all parts, feel free to continue. Also try your own versions of the truth.
