The more the social network FB continues to wage war against the users by doing privacy invasions, the more the users are going to leave the social forum. I am only wondering why more haven´t allready? I have and I am happy for it. Facebook is also addictive and you can end up spending more time on getting attention on Facebook than hanging out with your real friends in real life.
In todays Aftonbladet.se the debater Jonas Colliander is speaking about the privacy intrusions Facebook is making. He thinks that the adds have been tastful so far, but the more the stockmarket demands income then Facebook will have to make short term profit and therefor the scientist in the article thinks there is a risk of a more aggressive approach to make money. So far Facebook has tried to avoid this. The Internet is the last place for aggressive marketing, he is writing about.
The scientist in the article also says that mostly people on social forums hang out with friends and relatives and that is why personal integrity is so important.
Jonas writes that some have had to pay Facebook for beeing more visible in the friends flows. He also says this is a dangerous path to go for Facebook.
Well, I agree with the facts that an aggressive marketing is going to make the users run. But also all the changes to the site that has made it diffucult to edit or remove ones information is a bad way to go. Try to undo a group you made. It´s almost impossible. You have to leave the group… but you cannot unlist it (correction: at least I couldn´t— can you?). Also all the savings of old materials is also a security risk. There are more question marks on privacy and what is online on Facebook than the benefits given by the forum, so how come you who use it still use it? Doesn´t the users think of the impact social forum mistakes can have on their futures? You might have one oppinion to different and you might not get the job. This is sad, but unfortunately true. You might have tight settings, so not much can see it, but still, your friends might not have. Imagine what social engineers can get. It´s very easy. You just need to be a good manipulator. And unfortunately many cybercriminals are experts on manipulation.
Many companies today hire another company to research the past of people and I am wondering how legal methods they are using. Do they somehow access your account to see your information? I wonder… can you be sure it isn´t possible? Can you?

I can whenever I feel like it look in Swedish databases and get a lot of information about the Swedish population. Any idiot can use them, no it´s not that easy, but it isn´t so difficult either. You need a basic set of computer and Internet skills, then you are set to go.
I like finding things out. I accessed the databases in a conquest to find some information I was interested in, but I didn´t find it. But I found other interesting things though. In Sweden 5,6 million users over the age of 16 have used Internet the last 3 months. 0.7 million use Internet at least once a week. That is a lot, since Sweden only has 9 million inhabitants. The users are pretty much spread over the age groups from 16-74.
I also happend to read that less people wanna speak to statitical research agencies in Dn.se. Some don´t even answer the phone when they call them. I wonder why? Maybe the population is tired of all marketing firms and callcenters calling them and selling stuff all the time. Also nowadays many understand to take money for giving away their information. Some marketing firms give money coupons to the ones that participate in the resarches.

Ads are created by people that usually have education and know how to target an audience. Ads also give a image and a story to the products they are selling. Some ads sell a lifestyle more than the product itself. Ads are made to appeal to the targeted audience, to make you consume. The marketers can create ads that make you think in a certain way. The marketers can make ads that trigger emotions. Well, in this YouTube-clip you get to know a little bit more about how others interpret some ads.
Everyone that interprets ads has a background, it´s filled with cultural knowledge, social behavior etctera. All this background and prior knowledge effects you when you see ads and commercials. You might not want to buy it before the ad or commercial, but the ads and commercials are designed to appeal to your feelings, your brain and your thoughts. You will clearly see how these ads and commercials in this clip appeal to their targeted audience.
I think it´s good to think about all the ads and commercials around you. Even if you don´t look at them, they effect you. I.e. being exposed to something continuesly makes you think it´s normal. Ads help to make you indifferent. Indifference is a type of evilness. Indifference can never be good.
In example being exposed to anorectic fashion ideals makes you finally believe that it is the way you should look. This especially effects young people that are yet building up their self-esteem. Todays children and youth are much more exposed to commercials and ads than I was during my childhood. We did not have commercial TV, so commercials came later on than for the youth today. They grow up thinking consuming and buying toys is the way to live… even though life is something else.
What are we teaching the next generation with advirtisements through commercials and ads? Do the companies have some kind of responsiblity? Do we even teach our children about ads in school? Maybe we should, so that they are more aware of the fiction behind them. Ads are really fictional stories.
How often have you not seen commercials like:
“I am not just a dentist, I am a mom too.” Selling some tooth paste.
“I am a teacher and I sometimes take this yoghurt so my stomach is fit for fight.”
Well, I happen to know that some of the actors are not teachers or dentists, since one person in a commercial was a former class mate and another person happened to be a former HR-person. So commercials are often just fiction all the way… Don´t we need to teach this to our children in school too? What do you think.
Here is the YouTube clip with students interpreting some ads and commercials:
