Before Internet, before social media there was Heta Linjen (Hot line). I used it a lot during my youth years. I met friends with my friends and we had parties and a lot of fun. It was a alternative way to meet new people. We usually met people with a friend, so it felt safer.
Well, it was really a “mistake” by the design of Switch boards for phone calls with no receiver. We where grouped together to a group conversation and we could talk. So really having the Internet and Skype and Facebook… is really old news for someone like me. I used social media long before we even new Facebook. And I do not use Facebook. Not for me, if I am not forced to use it.
Well, in todays DN.se they write that this old form of social media by telephony has turned 30 years old this year. In the newspaper it says that they used it for gathering to demonstrate… interesting, this I did not know, afterall I was pretty young and didn´t know about Heta linjen until high school. At Tekniska museet (technical museum) there is a exhibition about it.
In Sweden the trains in Western Sweden are standing still, according to Dn.se. Why? A computer error of course. A hundred years ago this would not have happend. The trains could run and if something was broken it was due to something mechanical. All trains would not stand still unless the traintracks where gone!
All this technique should set us free – but it has only trapped us in in many ways. We are more vulnerable and the quality of the products on the market are often not the highest.
You cannot even trust health care instruments, we can also read in Dn.se. In Denmark a tool for rectoscopi had not been propely cleaned for about 700 people. Imagine that. The persons could have gotten any disease.
So communications, health care… everything is vulnerable and risking even life. The problem at Trafikverket is that they cannot see incoming traffic… that´s bad.
Infrastructure should allways work. There should be analouge backup. Also health care must have demands on quality assurance, some kind of technical overview of all products that are used for many patients… One should be able to trust health care… but we cannot…
